Horseman 5×4 Fitted With Leaf Aptus Digital Back for High Quality Studio Photography
The future is digital!
I would like to have a digital back for my Horseman LS54. First I’d like to try one out.
Choosing to purchase digital back means looking at at a kit… will the lenses used for film give good results? need a laptop capable of capturing large digital files… need to buy Capture One software to deal with raw files… the desktop needs to be able to process large files especially if there are several layers in Photoshop…
The overall cost of moving to digital backs is high, ultimately you need to have the clients willing to pay for quality images to justify the move. Shooting film on large format and medium format is a good alternative in the meantime.
The Leaf website is enticing… many photographers who have used the Leaf digital back say that the results have a film like quality. Generally negative comments relating to the ‘feel’ of digital images are often about being ‘flat’ and lacking ‘depth’.
The future is film-ish!

Go Phase One! If price is a concern they have good deals on P series refurbs. Check with The Flash Centre, Teamwork Digital.
I have been watching the prices of the refurbished Phase Ones. I’d like to give one a trial on the Horseman 54. A demo would be a good start but I’d like to use one with the equipment that I have.
